Religion - I Can Share

Enjoy this story called “A Little Boy Who Shares”.  It’s a children’s version of a bible story where the little boy shares his bread and fish with Jesus.  Jesus uses the bread and fish to perform a miracle to create enough food to share with the people. Find a way to share with someone in your family today.

Language Arts - Letter Yy

Enjoy 2 letter Yy videos and then see if you can make Yy’s with sticks, rocks, yarn, etc. Make Yy’s with tangible materials inside or outside. Feel free to be creative!

Math - Positinal Words

See if you can answer the question “Where’s the monkey?”.  Shout out the answer and see if you are correct!  Good luck.  When you are done, complete IXL F6 - above and below.

Sharing

Everyone loves mud pies and ice cream. Right?  Well, Lexi’s puppies are glad she is sharing.

Christopher shared two of his flowers with Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Post.  Love! Love!

Brittany also shared flowers with us and she sent some to her grandmother in Miami.  Thanks for sharing here and there!

Religion - I Can Share

Rainbow Fish is a great story about sharing.  In the story you will hear what happens when Rainbow Fish doesn’t share and how that makes him and his friends feel.  Then, if you keep listening, you will find out the wonderful things that can happen if you do share and the feelings you have from that experience.  When you are done watching, make your own Rainbow Fish.  Check the email for more details.  Enjoy!

Language Arts - Rhyming

Today we are going to practice matching rhyming words.  Watch and practice with Mrs. Morgan and then complete the cut and glue sheet from the attachment in the email or practice with your own rhyming cards that you have at home.

Here is a story called Llama Llama Time to Share.  Enjoy the story and listen carefully for rhyming words!

Math - Positional Words

Here is a song about positional words.  Listen carefully and you will hear rhyming words too!

Parents and children should watch this video together.  When you are done, get a glass or see through plastic cup and a small toy.  Play your own game to practice positional words!

Letter Yy at Home

Will and Celia were hard at work today.  While learning about the letter Yy, they decided to put their artistic skills to work too. They took turns taking pictures of “yellow” things and then turned them into a collage.  What a great idea!  I’m so proud that you worked together and created something so special.  I think it’s pretty enough to frame!

“Homework”

Will was busy last week learning about the letter “X”, practicing his graphing skills while learning about Earth Day, and practicing his rhyming words.  Great job Will!

Religion - I Can Share

I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s story about Kelly Martin.  God wants us to share with our friends and our family.  Sharing makes everyone feel good!  Remember when you would go to the art center and draw pictures for your friends, Mrs. Post and me?  How did that make you feel? Happy and proud, I think.  How do you think it made those to whom you gave the drawing feel?  I know I felt happy and loved and I’m sure your friends and Mrs. Post did as well! Here is a sharing song that I think you will enjoy.  When you are done, find at least 2 ways that you can share with someone today.  You can draw a picture of you sharing or have someone take your picture while you are sharing.  Happy sharing!

Language Arts - Letter Yy

Here are a couple of videos to help you learn about the letter Yy. When you are done, check the email for the “bubble” sheet.  Don’t forget to practice “writing” on something other than paper before you practice writing Yy’s on the back.

Math - Positional Words

Yesterday, I hope you got to experience all sorts of postional words with your obstacle course and the All Around the Farm song.  Today, there are two videos to help you practice left and right as well as try and decide if an object is on the left or the right.  The third video is for a parent or older sibling to watch and help your child complete the activity.

Do you remember which one is your left hand and which is your right hand?  Let’s practice.

See if you can decide if the object is on the “left” or the “right”.

This next one is an activity that will help with tracing and cutting as well as learning about left and right feet.  This video is more for the parents to watch and then help your child trace, cut, and play.

Religion - I Can Share

Listen to the Kelly Martin story about sharing and follow along with the pictures.  Listen carefully because I will ask you some questions at the end!  After the story, get page 67/68 from your packet and check the email for directions.

Language Arts - Letter Yy

For review, you can go back and sing along with Jack Hartman on the See It, Say It, Sign It video. Today we will be learning all about the letter Yy.  Yy makes the sound /y/ like yellow, yo-yo, yawn.  Listen to the Yy story and repeat the sounds and the words you hear.  When you are done, check the email for a “Y” craft.

Here are a few examples of what you can do for the Y craft.
(Yawn, yak, yo-yo, yoga)

Math - Positional Words

This week in math, you will find an action packed variety!  If we were in the classroom, we would practice positional words with hands on activities and body movements.  I will provide you with some ways and ideas to do the same thing at home.  You will find 2 videos here today.  One is a song by Jack Hartman called “All Around the Farm”.  The second one is a way to make an obstacle course in order to practice postional words.  This video shows an inside obstacle course but if the weather is nice, I encourage you to make an outside course as well.  The objective is to practice the words and use the vocabulary.  Here are a few words the children will learn: inside, outside, front, back, up, down, above, below, left right, beside, next to, etc.  You get the picture! Have fun!

Religion - I Can Help - Award Day!

To wrap up our week about helping, here is a song called “All About Helpfulness”.  Earlier in the week, you completed a religion page from your packet where you checked off all the helping activities you completed.  Today, you will complete the other side of that sheet by writing, drawing and coloring.  Check your email for details.

Language Arts - Rhyming Words

Get ready to exercise and rhyme!  Join Jack Hartman to exercise when words rhyme and freeze when they don’t.  When you’re done, check the email for a practice sheet.

Math/Science - Earth Day & Sort/Graph

We all love Clifford, so here is a story called Earth Day Puppy.  Listen to all the ways everyone in the park helps to celebrate Earth Day.  See what surprise Clifford gets when one Jorge, one of Cliffords’s friends, does his part to celebrate Earth Day.  When you are done, check the email for a sort and graph sheet to complete.

Helping at Home

Good job Brittany for finding so many ways to help at home!

Religion - I Can Help

I know many of you have been helping at home, especially this week.  Here is another song to learn about helping at home.  When you are done, you can draw a picture of you helping, cut out pictures from old magazines of people helping, or find two new ways to help today.

Language Arts - Letter Xx

Go to My Big World to play a couple of  alphabet recognition games.  Check the email for the issues and the details.  Enjoy the singing walrus writing the letter Xx.  Be sure you write in the air and practice on surfaces that do not include paper.  After practicing, then you can practice on the sheet in the attachment of the email.

Math/Science - Earth Day/Sorting

See if you can help sort the trash and sing along with a song called “Clean Up Trash”.  When you are done, find the cut and glue “Sort the Trash” sheet attached in the email.  Do you recycle at home?  Do you have a special place to sort plastic watterbottles, cardboard boxes, metal cans, glass jars, and food scraps?  Sorting our trash is good for the earth!

Religion - I Can Help

You boys and girls have been doing a great job showing how you can be a helper at home.  There are other ways to show people love and kindness.  These include sharing, giving to those in need, praying, smiling, playing nicely and even singing!  Listen to this song called All About Kindness and see if there are ways that you can show people love and kindness.  Enjoy!

When you are done, find page 65/66 in your packet.  There are strips with words and hearts.  Color the hearts any colors you like.  VERY CAREFULLY CUT ON THE BLACK LINES.  Hold your scissors correctly, take your time, open shut slowly and easily.  When you are done cutting, you should have 8 strips with which you will use to make a “Love Chain”.  You can either put them all together and hang the chain up to remind you how to show love and kindness OR you can save the strips somewhere safe and make your chain as you complete each act.

Language Arts - Rhyming Words

Today I have a short lesson on how to look at three pictures in a row and figure out which two rhyme.  Lets’ take a look.

Math/Science - Earth Day

Today is Earth Day!  Let’s learn more about the earth and why it’s important to take care of it.  Here is a story called I Am Earth.  It’s a good story filled with new things to learn and really fun pictures too.  When you are done, go outside with your paper from the email and take a scavenger hunt nature walk around your yard or neighborhood.  Look for all of the wonderful little things on our earth that are on your paper.  When you are done, count how many things you found.  If you find something interesting that is not on the paper, draw it on the back.  Have fun and enjoy the world God gave us!

Helpers At Home

Great job sweeping the floor Ian!

Harper is really good at cutting apples for lunch.

I bet Alex’s cats are happy she is a good helper.

Lexi is helping her dad plant flowers.

Religion - I Can Help

Here is a new song called “I Can Be A Helper”.  There are pictures to help you remember the words.  Sing it a few times so you can learn it!

Now find page 64 in your packet.  When you perform one of the helping chores, you can use your new letter “X” to mark the box by that picture.  (Save the other side of this sheet for another day)

Language Arts - Letter Xx

Remember that letter Xx makes the /ks/ sound like you hear at the end of the words ox, box, fox and so on.  Yesterday you listened to a story about the letter Xx and today you can sing along and dance to the letter Xx song.  Have fun!  When you are done, use the sheet in the email to practice tracing and writing the letter Xx and then find all of the upper and lowercase Xx’s in the bubbles.

Math/Science - Earth Day

Check the side of the blog for the link to My Big World.  Log in with the code 2020Colts.  Go to the April 2020 and and click on the  “Clean the Park” game.  You will be cleaning the park and counting to ten!  Play as many times as you want. (Below is what you will see.).  After completing the online activities, check your email for the “Cross out the Litter Sheet”.   On the sheet,  it asks you to cross out (\) the litter.  I recommend using our new letter to “X” out the litter.  Color the picture if you wish!

Let’s Play a Game!

In the classroom, We had introduced the children to “Tic-Tac-Toe” with some center games.  It is a little difficult at first but it’s a great game to help young children learn about “strategy”, “choices”, “horizontal”, “vertical” , “diagonal”, etc.  Since our letter this week is “X”, it seemed this would be a great time to reintroduce this game.  Luckily, this game can be played on a simple piece of paper; with objects around the house; or since we are talking about Earth Day this week, even nature objects would be great!  Below are a few ideas I found that I thought might spark some creativity.

Religion - I Can Help

We are beginning a new 5 chapter unit in religion called “I Can Love”.  The first chapter is “I Can Help”.  Today we will begin our chapter with a story called “Helpers in the Snow.”.  Listen to the story and see how everyone in Kelly Martin’s family helps one another.  When you are done, draw a picture of how you help people in your family or take a picture of you actually helping someone.  If you like, share it with me so I can see what a good helper you are!

Language Arts - Letter Xx

Let’s review all the letters, sounds, and hand motions with Jack Hartman’s “See it, say it, sign it”.

Our new letter is X and it makes the sound /ks/ like you hear at the end of ox, box, fox,  etc.  Some words that actually begin with X like “xylophone” do not make the /ks/ sound, so we will focus more on words that end with x.  Listen to The Letter X Book and see if you can hear the words that end in “x”.

Here is one more lesson on the letter Xx.

Here is a sample of what your X craft can look like.  Do you think it looks like an X-ray?

Math/Science - Earth Day

Wednesday is Earth Day.  This week we will incorporate math and science through Earth day activities.  In religion, we learned about creation and how God created everything in the world for us to enjoy and take care of.  During that unit, we also learned a creation motion song.  Let’s sing and dance to review all that God has given us on this earth!

Now, go to My Big World and find the April 2020 issue “Save the Critters From the Litter”.  You can use the audio button and read along with the issue and answer their questions.  On the back page, you can find and tap all of the letters in the word “EARTH DAY”.  When you have finished with the magazine you can watch “Hooray for Earth Day” video.  Below is the issue for which you will be looking.

Religion - Jesus is Alive!

I would like to end this week with a story called God’s Story: Easter.

Now, be ready to dance, sing, and raise your hands in the air.  Jesus is Alive!

In your packet is a sheet titled “HE IS RISEN”.  Do your best job coloring!

Language Arts - Writing Letters Aa-Ww

Enjoy a little Jack Hartman song, dance and write in the air!

I found another writing letter Ww video.  Trace in the air along with it.  Enjoy!

Now, find the alphabet sheet in your packet and practice ALL of the letters Aa-Ww.  Remember if you are having trouble with any of the letters, practice on something other than paper.  Take your time and do your best!

Math/Science - Weather and Patterns

Enjoy a weather song.  Sing along if you like.  What’s our weather outside today?

In your packet there is a Weather Pattern cut and paste.  We have been practice patterning quite a bit in the classroom; however, we may need a little practice before completing the sheet.  Use some objects around your house (coins, small toys, cotton balls, etc).  Parents, you can make a pattern for your child and see if they can finish it or you can let them make their own.  When you are comfortable with patterning, complete the cut and glue activity.  REMEMBER: Take your time cutting!  Open, shut, open, shut ON the line!

Here is an example of the beginning and completion of the craft.

Language Arts - Rhyming Words

Listen to this funny story about four dust bunnies that are trying to rhyme words.  One of the friends is having trouble rhyming but is trying to save the day.  Can you guess which friend it is?  Can you hear each word in the group that doesn’t rhyme?  When you are done, use the sheet in the email to find words that rhyme.  Look at the first picture, see if you can find the one that rhymes with it and circle it.  Color the rhyming pictures.

Math/Science

Weather/Water/Rain/Graphing

Enjoy this weather song about being happy in all kinds of weather!  Then there are two math activity sheets in your packet.  Check your email for instructions.

Volcano Experiment at Home

Here is some learning excitement and enthusiasm that will surely brighten your day!  Good job Aiden!

Religion - Easter Season

Let’s begin our religion time today singing a song you already know.  I’ve put some pictures with it to help you remember the words.

Now, let’s listen to a story about Kelly Martin from our religion series I Am Special.

Language Arts - Letter Ww

Review with Jack Hartman’s See It, Say It, Sign It video (First posted on Friday March 27).  Listen to My Letter “w”Book and see how many words you can name that begin with “w” like wagon.  Then complete the watermelon craft in your packet.

Easter Drawing Fun

This is a fun “How to Draw...” video that I meant to post earlier.  Have a piece of paper handy as well as something with which to draw and color.  If you do this activity, please send me a picture of your finished product.  Have fun!

Math - Numbers & Sets

Count along with Corduroy.  When you are done practicing, complete the emailed sheet by counting the given sets carefully, find the numeral, and circle it.  Be careful counting!

Language Arts - Upper & Lowercase Matching

Watch this fun alphabet video that helps you practice matching upper and lowercase letters.  Say them and sing them with Lotty and her friends.  When you are done, complete the cut and paste activity to get a little extra practice.

Tuesday, April 7, 2020

Language Arts - Beginning Sounds

We are going to practice some beginning sounds. Start with Jack Hartman.  Sing, move, and practice his word play.  When you are done, complete the practice sheet in the email.  Look at the picture, say it aloud, decide the first sound you hear, find the letter in that box that makes that sound and circle it! Color your pictures but don’t scribble.

Religion Easter Story

Here is a special story about the meaning of all the colors in the Easter basket.  After you’ve finished listening, make a special Easter prayer basket with the sheet attached in the email.

Easter Math - Matching Sets to Numerals

Practice counting with this video or with real objects in your house.  When you are done, you can complete the cut and glue Easter math sheet in the email.

Monday, April 6, 2020

Rhyming Words

Remember that rhyming words sound the same at the end of the word like “at, bat, cat”.  “At” is the sound you hear at the end.  Only the beginning sound changes.  Every time you add a different letter to the beginning of an ending like “at” you make a new rhyming word!

Now that you have had some practice, complete the color, cut and glue rhyming sheet called “What’s Missing?”  Good luck!

Math - Easter Patterns

Hop along with the bunny and figure out what comes next in the pattern.  Then complete one or both of the Easter patterns color, cut and glue sheets.  Hop, Hop, Hooray! Hop, Hop, Hooray! :)

Also, check out the Brain Breaks sheet.  Cut on the dotted lines, put each strip in a plastic egg, choose and egg, and complete the simple activity inside.  Have fun!

Palm Sunday

Yesterday was Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week.  As we continue to prepare for the Ressurection of Jesus on Easter Sunday, listen to this story about Jesus riding into Jerusalem.  As he rode in on a special donkey, many people waved palm branches and shouted to him with praise.

Friday, April 3, 2020

Language Arts - Rhyming Words

While you are watching the video, be ready to repeat the words and give a thumbs up if they rhyme and a thumbs down if they don’t.  When you are done, complete the sock picture in the email.  Color, cut, and glue the 3 words that rhyme with sock.  Listen carefully and have fun!

Easter Math/1-10

Enjoy this story about an Easter egg hunt and a parade.  Listen for the rhyming words too!  When you are done complete the color sheet in the email.  Find and circle 10 eggs and then color the picture.  It’s a very busy picture so take your time and don’t scribble!  If you get tired, take a break and finish later.  If you can’t print the picture or you want an extension to this activity, draw your own picture and hide 10 eggs in it!

At Home

Falyn spent one of her days coloring by number.  Your butterfly is beautiful and I love your smile!

She also played outside.  Nice hit!

Busy At Home

It seems Will is enjoying his breakfast outside after completing his work.  Nice sweatshirt, cute desk, and beautiful flowers complete the scene!

Christian sings our snack time prayer.   I sure do miss having snack with everyone!

Then he gets busy with his activities.  That’s a beautiful Easter egg and your writing looks terrific!

Volcano Experiment - #1

I know most of you saw the volcano experiment idea that I posted earlier this week.  I’m sure you also saw a picture of Will trying it out.  In case you haven’t had a chance to experiment or you don’t have the supplies, I wanted you to be able to see it in action like you would have had we been in the classroom.  I miss you all so much and I am so sad that we can’t play and learn together. So here is the best I can offer you today. (I had to break it into 2 parts because it was a little too long to post on this platform.)  Enjoy!

Part 1

Part 2

Volcano experiment #2

Here is a little different and easier version that I played with.

Letter Vv - Writing

How many letters are in the alphabet?  How do you write Vv’s?  What sound does “v” make?  Can you name some words that begin with v?  Get up, move, dance, write in the air and learn about the letter Vv!

Easter Math - Counting to 10

Count and sing with the Busy Beaver.  When you are done, work on your IXL - Math A,B, & C. Way to go Christian and Christopher for completing all 3 sections!!  Elizabeth, you are almost there.  Good job boys and girls!

Home Activities

Brittany, nice job on coloring and ordering your Easter eggs!  I love how neatly you wrote your name too.  Keep up the good work!

Easter Story

One more familiar Easter story.  Listen for the rhyming words in this one!

Easter Math - Counting to 10

Enjoy the counting videos then, if you can, print out the “Easter Roll & Cover”.  Color the Easter eggs and basket but not the numbers in the dots.  Use a die to roll or make some paper flash cards with dots similar to a die. Roll the die or draw a flash card, if  you see the number on your basket, cover it! You can use a coin, bean, noodle, toy etc to cover the numbers.  Play as many times as you like.  Have fun!
Don’t forget to keep working on your IXL (numbers to 3, numbers to 5, and numbers to 10).

Rhyming Words

Rhyming words sound the same at the end like “at”, “bat”, “cat”, etc.  Listen to and repeat the rhyming words in the video.  Then use the sheet attached in the email to practice matching rhyming words.  I would suggest that your child cut on the lines, mix up the pictures, and play a matching game.  When they are done, put the pictures in an envelope or ziploc bag and save them to play again later.  If you don’t have the ability to print the sheet, look at the sheet and try to recreate some pictures with simple drawings.  Rhyming words are difficult but fun.  Enjoy!

Science at Home

Check out the bee that Will found and studied while out for a ride on his Big Wheel the other day.  He has a snake story too but I think it was a little too chaotic to get a picture. :)

Good job on the volcano!  I think maybe you will be a scientist one day.
